Manchester United are reported to have made contact with Atletico Madrid over a possible transfer of Diego Godin to Old Trafford.
According to a report by skysports, Manchester United after seeing their bid for Bayern Munich defender Jerome Boateng rejected by both club and player, have now turned to 32-year-old Uruguay captain, Diego Godin as a possible transfer target before the market window closes.
Jose Mourinho in the last few weeks have been linked with some of the top European defenders (central defenders) but has failed to land any. He has been to Leicester City for the services of Harry Maguire, Spurs for Toby Alderweired, Bayern for Boateng, and Yerry Mina, and all have failed.
As the transfer window draws to a close at midnight today, we wait to see who Manchester United and Jose Mourinho brings to the club. It is also reported that the Uruguay captain could cost up to £18million, which is his release clause.
Manchester United will go up against Leicester City for the league opener tomorrow and will be up against one of his failed transfer targets Harry Maguire, whose manager when asked if the England International will be going to Manchester, amusingly said Maguire will be at Manchester tomorrow, but only for a few hours.
Though Manchester United have the squad to execute the new season, manager Jose Mourinho is trying to bring a more experience and a player that can command the back line with respect, which United have been lacking.
Even the captain Valencia does not seem to have those leadership qualities expected of a captain of a club such as United.
The transfer window closes midnight today, and with Jose Mourinho not having the luxury of last season in terms of spending, he is finding it difficult to land his preferred targets.
Hopefully, he gets to sign before the deadline, so he does not use that as an excuse for not winning the league this time, just like Antonio Conte for Chelsea…lol
