The European football governing body UEFA has released names of nominees for best goalkeepers for the 2017-2018 Champions League season. The shortlisted candidates as released by UEFA are:
Alisson Becker of AS Roma (Serie A)
Keylor Navas of Real Madrid (La Liga)
Gianluigi Buffon of Juventus (Serie A)
For all the nominees, only Keylor Navas who is likely to win the award is still with his club Real Madrid, the likes of Alisson and Buffon all left their respective clubs this transfer window.
Keylor Navas who helped Real Madrid lift three straight Champions league in a row will be resuming the new season picking up the role of a second choice goalkeeper, given the arrival of FIFA Golden Glove winner, Thibaut Courtois from Chelsea.
AS Roma former goalkeeper Alisson Becker who is also nominated, made a big money move to Liverpool, as he will be looking to also win the award as the best goalkeeper of the season.
Buffon who won the FIFA Best goalkeeper will be looking to add the European award to his collection. He left Juventus for Paris Saint Germain.
