The Senator representing Akwa Ibom North-West Senator Godswill Akpabio has resigned as Senate Minority Leader, preparatory to his defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Akpabio who allegedly resigned his post following his imminent move to the majority party of the All Progressives Congress, wrote to the leadership of the Senate, notifying them of his intention to step down as the minority leader.

The letter which was addressed to Senate President, Senator Bukola Saraki, Deputy Senate President, Majority leader and others reads:

“May I extend to you and my dear colleagues in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)Senate caucus of the 8th Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria the compliment and best wishes of my constituent and I.
This letter is to formally inform you of my resignation as Senate Minority leader, with effect from August 4th, 2018.
Let me thank Senate Minority leadership our distinguish colleagues and our great party the PDP for the opportunity to lead the caucus for the last three years.
Please accept the assurance of my high esteem.”

This letter dated August 4th means the stage is now set for the Akpabio mega rally in Ikot Ekpene, Akwa Ibom State on Wednesday, August 8, 2018, as the Senator announces his defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
