Security operatives are reported to have arrested an alleged criminal herdsman and some cultists in Umunneochi Local Government Area of Abia state.
The arrest of the alleged criminal herdsman and cultists was made known by Hon. Tobias Egeonu, the Special Assistant to the Executive chairman of the local government on media and publicity in a statement released on Friday 25th June 2021.
In the statement, he said “following recent attacks in Umunneochi, the new Captain in charge of F.O.B Isuochi and his team have captured suspected criminal herdsman involved in the attacks,” he said.
The latest arrest is said to have been made possible by the executive chairman of Umunneochi Local Government Area, Hon. Chief Ifeanyi Madu, who had declared a state of emergency on Security in the area.
According to report, the captured criminal herdsman is currently helping police with useful information on the whereabouts of other members of his gang.
Hon. Tobias Egeonu, in his statement, also stated that sources have disclosed that there exists a criminal camp inside the surrounding forest and the military is now aware and alert.
He also revealed that one of the captured criminals gave his name as GUDANI YA’U from kogi state. His two accomplices escaped to the bush but the soldiers are searching the forest, determined to get them down.
Similarly, arrests were made of some cultists who were terrorising the council around the Amuda axis. The criminal was arrested along Ndiawa-Leru road and the cyclist that gives out information to his allies.
