FG Formalized Its Membership Of The Stingy Convention- Shehu

Senator Shehu Sani, has once again, taken a dig at the Policy of the Federal Government, as he reacts to the news that the President Buhari led government has commenced its N5,000 conditional cash transfer to Nigerians in Urban areas with the hope of taking about 20million of them out of poverty in two years. This move he said is a sign that the Federal government has finally formalized the nation’s membership into the stingy convention.

Shehu Sani, clearly, has stylishly taken a swipe at the conditional cash transfer policy of the federal government, borrowing from the recent social media trends of ‘Stingy Men Association of Nigerian (SMAN) and Stingy Women Association of Nigeria (SWAN)’ which saw some arguments between both the male and female genders on relationship matters.

The well-known critic of the Federal government, had taken to his official social media handle on Tuesday 19th January 2021, to put out this tweet that says:

“With 5k to Nigerians through conditional cash transfer, the FG has formalized the nation’s membership into the Stingy Convention,” he had tweeted on Tuesday.

The jibe from Garba Shehu, which is not the first time and will definitely not be the last, came after Vice President Osinbajo was reported to have kicked off the conditional cash transfer to Nigerians in the urban areas. He said they have almost reached their objective of taking two million Nigerians out of poverty within two years.

Professor Osinbajo stated this on Tuesday in Abuja during the virtual flag-off of the cash transfer scheme, called the Rapid Response Register (RRR), to be facilitated through a wholly technology-based approach.

He said this followed the successful activation of the Economic Sustainability Plan’s (ESP) Cash Transfer scheme aimed at delivering financial support to at least 1 million urban-based households.

According to the Vice President, RRR is a means by which the urban poor and vulnerable population can be speedily identified using geographic satellite technology and other related means for the purposes of delivering conditional cash transfer to households affected by the fallouts of the COVID-19 pandemic in the country.

“The groundbreaking success of the RRR, now emboldens us to achieve our aspiration of a social security programme for a minimum of twenty million Nigerians in the next two years. This will be the largest of its kind on the continent.

This (aspiration) is, at least from the perspective of this tested approach, now well within our reach,” a statement by the Vice President’s aide, Laolu Akande quoted him as saying.
