Maina's Trial: Court Throws Out Request For Adjournment

The Abdulrasheed Maina’s corruption case has suffered yet another setback, on the part of his legal team, as the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, on Tuesday, rejected the request for an adjournment for his team to prepare for his defence.

Justice Okon Abang ruled that Abdulrasheed Maina’s request was a ploy to waste the judicial time of the court.

The judge had on December 4, 2020, adjourned the N2billion money laundering case till Tuesday based on a request by Maina’s new lawyer, Mr. Adaji Abel, who pleaded that he needed more time to enable him to prepare for the case.

The former PRTT chair, Maina, who is being tried for money laundering by the EFCC, along with his company, Common Input Ltd, was found by the court to have jumped bail when he suddenly stopped attending his trial for over a month now.

The court subsequently revoked the bail granted him, issued a bench warrant for his arrest and ordered his surety, Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume to forfeit the N500million bail bond he pledged.

The police, a few days ago, announced that it arrested Maina in the neighbouring Niger Republic, following which he was brought back to Nigeria on Thursday aboard a Nigeria Police Force’s aircraft.

Maina, dressed in kaftan and a cap to match, has since resumed his trial in court.
