Ini Edo has been appointed as the ambassador for women empowerment of the National Democratic Institute (NDI).
Ini Edo revealed this to her fans on her official social media handles on Friday 4th September 2020.
NDI is a non-profit organisation that works with partners in developing countries to increase the effectiveness of democratic institutions. The actress was appointed as part of the organisation’s goal to increase women’s representation in public office and also to address every obstacle to women’s participation in the nation’s political space.
Responding to her appointment, Ini said that she would work hand-in-hand with influential Nigerians to ensure that women fully participate in the country’s electoral system.
According to her, she would bring people like former women heads of state, and other NGOs on board to achieve the set goal.
I won’t be alone; we all will be united in the cause of amending laws to enable women to compete successfully for elected office in our country,” she said. The film star also noted that she would address the problem of violence against women.
In her social media age, she posted a photo with a caption that reads:
“Hello everyone. I am very excited and honored to formally take on the role of the National Democratic Institute’s Ambassador for Women’s Empowerment in Nigeria NDI.
I believe Nigeria has a special duty to serve as a shining light in Africa and in the rest of the world. I feel strongly this is something we all must strive for, Nigeria shine as a nation that values her women’s skills, energy and good ideas, and brings them into the public arena on an equal basis.
Nigeria can and must be a country where our women and girls can dream big dreams, and pursue them, and rise according to their talents to become leaders in shaping a future that allows all of us to reach our full potential.
Together we can work toward this vision, and I hope you’ll join me. Thank you,” she said.
