The relationship between Arsenal and Mesut Ozil will continue, no matter how uncomfortable it has been, for obvious reasons, as the German international was reported to have turned down a move to Turkish side, Fenerbahce due to wage. Aside from the fact that he is reluctant to leave the London club, he was reported to have rejected the move, as Fenerbahce cannot match his wage bill. He currently earns about £350,000-per-week at the Emirate.
According to reports, the wife, Amine Gulse is alleged to be behind the Fenerbahce linked move, and possible relocation to Turkey.
Ozil who is still 31, has just 12 months remaining on his £350,000-a-week deal, but appears unwilling to lower his wage demands despite being restricted to watching Arsenal from the sidelines, Dailymail reports.
It added that having rejected the advance from the Super Lig club, Ozil is considering sitting out the rest of his contract in North London.
His former Miss Turkey partner, however, is believed to be keen for him to head to Turkey. She is also an actress and is said to be very well known in the country, making them the ultimate glamour couple there
And her ambitions may still yet materialise with Istanbul Basaksehir also prepared to formalise their interest in Ozil.
Arsenal have been in good form of late, beating Liverpool and Manchester City in less than a week, and qualifying for the FA Cup final, but it is still unclear whether Ozil would be called into the team to face Chelsea in the final.
Speaking on the issue, manager, Arteta has hinted that the superstar could be offered a reprieve, highlighting Granit Xhaka’s return to the team after being stripped of the captaincy.
He said: ‘That applies for any player, and any member of the staff.
‘If you really show that then you’re deciding to do the best, not for yourself, but for the team and for the club, I think everybody will welcome you.
‘It’s not just me that has to give the green light. It’s everybody that has to be supportive and you need to feel as well that support from everybody because if not it’s a very uncomfortable situation.
