German champions, Bayern Munich have announced that they have completed the signing of Leroy Sane from Manchester City.
The Bundesliga champions, were said to have completed the transfer of the 24-year-old German international on a five-year contract worth £55m.
According to reports, Leroy Sane contract at City was due to expire in 2021 and Pep Guardiola’s side held discussions over a possible extension but the German-made it clear he wanted to leave the club this summer.
After a frustrating few months at the Etihad, Leroy Sane is clearly raring to go with the next chapter of his career back in Germany.
‘FC Bayern is a great club with big goals – and these goals suit me as well,’ he said
‘I’m looking forward to the new challenge and can’t wait to train with the team. ‘I know Hansi Flick from the U21 national team, we had a very good relationship there.
I want to win as many trophies as possible with FC Bayern, and the Champions League is the top priority.’ Bayern identified Sane as their top attacking target well over a year ago and the winger is expected to earn around £20m-a-year at the Allianz Arena, a hefty wage packet which City had no interest in matching.
The Germany international won back-to-back Premier League titles with City in 2017/18 and 2018/19 and also lifted two EFL Cups, an FA Cup and the Community Shield across his four-year stint at the club.
However, Sane made just one appearance in the Premier League this season after suffering a serious knee injury in the Community Shield last August. Sane made his return as a second-half substitute for Phil Foden in City’s 5-0 victory over Burnley last month and his cameo that afternoon would be his final appearance in sky blue.
Earlier this week, Guardiola admitted he would have ‘loved’ Sane to remain at City but thanked the attacker for his four-year service to the club and wished him all the best in Munich. ‘We wish him all the best, big thanks for our years together,’ the City head coach said
‘We wish him all the best in his new chapter at a fantastic club. ‘Is it disappointing? He wants to leave. Everyone has their own life. He deserves to move on. ‘I’d love him to stay here but he decided to move on because he believes he will be happier.’
