Oba Saheed Elegushi of Ikate land has paid a glowing tribute to his late father, Oba Yekini Elegushi as he marks 10th anniversary since his passing.
Oba Saheed Elegushi of the great Ikate-Elegushi Kingdom who succeeded his late father Oba Yekini Elegushi who passed away in 2009, shared a photo of the late Oba with a touching message as a caption on his Instagram page.
Oba Saheed Elegushi who have a great connection with his father, said:
“Today, ten years ago, a lush green leaf turned brown, ending a season. Daddy, you remain our hero; the pathfinder & architect. You charted the course for our development as a family and as a people. You live in our hearts, today and always. Omo èpo węrę węrę lojude Ilasan…kí àwo ma ję ni mo”
The late Oba Yekini Elegushi is credited for a lot of good things, as he is regarded as the man that laid the foundation for what the modern Ikate-Elegushi and the entire Eti-Osa is today. The Oba also made mention of this in his tribute message to his late father.
Oba Yekini Elegushi was installed as Oba Elegushi in 1991and according to reports, the Late Chief Lamidi Kalefo, the Olumegbon of Lagos, was the man that performed the ceremony. He died in 2009, after which Oba Saheed took over, but it was in 2010 that Oba Saheed was installed on the throne of Oba Elegushi.
Oba Saheed Elegushi who is one of the youngest and flamboyant Obas in Yoruba land and beyond, since taking over from his father, the late Oba Yekini Elegushi, and just like the late Oba, has shown exemplary leadership, that he is ranked as the most respected Oba in Lagos State.
A well-educated man, Oba Saheed had his secondary school education at the Methodist Boys’ High School, Lagos between 1988 and 1994.
After this, he proceeded to the Lagos State University, Ojo Campus around 1995 and 2000 bagging a Second Class Honourary Degree in Economics.
Oba Saheed Elegushi also acquired a Masters Degree in Economics at the Lagos State University, Ojo Campus between 2002 and 2003.
Oba Saheed Elegushi in his statement did not say if there will be any special Muslim prayers for the late Oba Yekini, but just like previous years, we expect one to be held by the family and the Ikate Kingdom.
