The Police in French capital, Paris has arrested British Popstar, Pete Doherty during an alleged street drug deal witnessed by police.
According to the report by the UK Evening Standard, during the arrest, the 40-year-old Libertines singer, Pete Doherty was said to be drunk and in possession of cocaine when approached by officers at around 3 am on Friday.
“The suspect was arrested in the Pigalle district, and was carrying two grammes of cocaine,” said an investigating source.
“The allegation is that he was involved in an illegal street transaction at the time.
“He was drunk, and did not comply with the police, to begin with, but was eventually taken to a police car.”
Pete Doherty was then taken into custody in central Paris and placed under formal criminal investigation, said the source.
A spokesman for Paris prosecutors confirmed that Doherty was ‘placed in detention’ in the early hours of Friday morning, and faced drug-related charges.
There were witnesses to the arrest in Pigalle, an area full of sex clubs and many passers-by shot videos of what happened, the report by standard had said.
The latest arrest and his alleged drug deals might not come as a surprise to many, given that he already has a record of pleading guilty to possession of cocaine, heroin, cannabis and ketamine in the past.
In January this year, he was held for 48 hours and questioned. Charges of drug possession and driving-related offences were later dropped. He was also sentenced to six months in jail for cocaine possession in 2011 in the United Kingdom.
Given that he is never scarce in Paris, as he often spends long periods living and performing in the French capital, the arrest might have been planned through investigations before he was finally caught in the act.
