The United States of America Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo rather than mourn the death of late Zimbabwean leader, Robert Mugabe, at a time most leaders of the world are sending their condolences to the people of Zimbabwe, has launched an attack on Mugabe calling his 40-years rule as catastrophic. He also reminded the people of Zimbabwe of the evil days of their late leader in his message to them.

Mike Pompeo in what seems to be the United States condolence note to the people of Zimbabwe, reminded the people of the Southern African country of how the late Robert Mugabe slaughtered almost all his political opponents in the 1980s. He said Mugabe enriched his family members and mismanaged the enormous wealth of the country, leaving the country impoverished, as citizens were turned into beggars.

Taking to his Twitter handle on Saturday, he put out this message saying:

“During nearly four decades in power, Robert Mugabe devastated a country with enormous potential. He slaughtered political opponents in the 1980s, used security forces to abuse the opposition and civil society, enriched his family and inner circle through massive corruption and catastrophically mismanaged the economy, turning the region’s breadbasket into one where much of the population requires international food assistance” he said.

He then added that Zimbabweans have long deserved better and their leadership has an opportunity to set the country on a much different path. “We will continue to stand with the Zimbabwean people in their efforts to forge a better, more prosperous future” he said.

Mugabe ruled Zimbabwe with an iron fist for almost 40 years before he was overthrown in a military coup in 2017. He died aged 95 at a hospital in Singapore.
