President Muhammadu Buhari of Nigeria has a few hours ago, arrived Poland for the 24th Session on Climate Change Conference
According to the statement released by the Presidency, President Buhari arrived Polish Military Base, Balice Airport, Krakow in Poland where he was received by some top Government officials in Poland. See some of the photos shared:
“It’s snowing right here as President Buhari arrives Polish Military Base, Balice Airport, Krakow in Poland, to Participate in the 24th Session of the Conference of the Parties under the UN framework Convention on Climate Change.”
The Climate Change Conference in Poland will see a continuation of the discussion from Paris, France.
The Paris Agreement, reached at COP21 in 2015, will loom large over events at Katowice. It was at COP21 that world leaders committed to making sure global warming stayed “well below” 2 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels. They also agreed to pursue efforts to limit the temperature rise to 1.5 degrees Celsius.
According to the United Nations, COP24 is important because this year marks the deadline agreed by signatories of the Paris Agreement to adopt a “work program for the implementation” of the commitments they made in 2015.
Other commitments made in Paris include increasing financing for climate action and the development of “national climate plans” by 2020.
President Muhammadu Buhari will join other world leaders who are a signatory of the United Nations, to discuss how these objectives are going to be met, and financing of these projects will be done.
