The Execitive Committee of the Confederation of African football (CAF) has withdrawn the hosting rights of AFCON 2019 from Cameroon, as the decision was made in an emergency meeting a few hours ago in Ghana.
Although no official reasons have been given, we understand it could be for security reasons, or lack of adequate preparation, from the side of Cameroon to host the AFCON 2019.
Also since Cameroon made and won their hosting bid, CAF and FIFA have increased the number of likely participating countries for the June/July competition. This also can add pressure to limited resource initially budgeted for, and given the economic situation of Cameroon, it is just asking for too much from them.
In a statement released a few minutes ago, to announce the news, the CAF committee said:
“Today, CAF Executive Committee met in Accra, Ghana and has decided that FecafootOfficie could not host the 2019 Total Africa Cup of Nations – Further information will follow soon” the statement reads.
We promise to bring you more details, as South Africa and Morocco are the two possible options left for CAF….and it could be Morocco. But the question now is, since Cameroon did not take part in the qualifiers, what now becomes their fate.
…more details to come ..
