The Nigerian Police Force has informed the general public that they have arrested four persons in connection to the incident at the official residence of the Deputy Senate President (DSP) Ekweremadu in Akpo Abuja, as they also insists that the alleged assassination claim after a preliminary report, shows that the incident at the residence of DSP Ekweremadu, was a case of a mere burglary and not an assassination attempt as earlier alleged.

The Police in a statement, said although investigations are still ongoing on the case, but refuted the claims allegedly levelled against it by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on delays in responding to distress calls, as in the case of DSP Ekweremadu, who was said to have allegedly put a call through during the incident, but the Police response call very late.

According to the police spokesman Jimoh Moshood, the arrested suspect, Mohammed Yusuf, from Kaura Namoda in Zamfara state attempted the burglary, along with one Ali, who is now at large. He said the duo had earlier broken into another home belonging to Mr. Haliru Adamu at Denis Osadebey Crescent, within the same estate, where they stole phones, jewelleries and other valuables.

He said:

“The residence of the DSP Ekweremadu was their second target, the police said. Moshood said Yusuf and his accomplice broke into the Apo Legislative Quarters home of Ekweremadu at about 0430hrs.
The Statement reads:

Preliminary investigation carried out so far did not reveal assassination attempt on the life of the Dep Senate President,Sen. Ike Ekweremadu and his family but a case of Burglary. However, investigation is still ongoing to determine if there is any other motive behind the offence”

“There was no delay in Police intervention in the incident that occurred in the residence of the DSP. 4 Police personnel and 1 personnel of the NSCDC on duty at the residence of the DSP at the time of the incidence have been arrested and currently in detention for investigation”
