Two passengers leaving for Turkey were found this Sunday, August 18, in possession of 2.4 million euros in cash in their luggage by customs officers at the Roissy-Charles De Gaulle airport in Paris, BFMTV reports.
According to the report by TV BFM, Two men were found in possession of more than €2 million in cash this Sunday, August 18, as they were preparing to board a flight to Istanbul, Turkey at Roissy-Charles de Gaulle airport (Seine-Saint-Denis), according to information from BFMTV.
The two travelers, coming from Algiers, were immediately subject to customs detention by agents of the Terminal 2F external surveillance brigade (BSE T2F) for “failure to comply with the obligation to declare capital for export” and “suspicion of customs laundering”. After counting, customs officers seized €2.4 million, some of which was in Swiss francs.
Record money seizure at Roissy airport
The two suspects, of Algerian nationality, aged 32 and 39, who declared themselves as textile traders, were then taken into custody in the premises of the National Office against Fraud in Public Finances (ONAF). Their hearings are still ongoing.
When contacted, the Bobigny prosecutor’s office indicated that an investigation was underway. “This is a record seizure of money at Roissy airport,” said a source close to the case.
Also according to information from BFMTV, customs officers from the BSE T2F had already seized 500,000 euros in cash in 2021 from a traveler who was also going to Turkey.
