Governor-Elect Soludo Receives Certificates Of Return

Anambra State Governor-elect Soludo and his Deputy Governor-elect, Dr Onyekachukwu Ibezim who were elected under the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in the just concluded Anambra State governorship election, have been presented with their certificate of return by the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC.

The ceremony which took place on Friday 12th November 2021, is in compliance with section 75 of the Electoral Act 2010 (as amended) which mandates the Commission to issue a Certificate of Return to the Governor and Deputy Governor-elect of Anambra State signifying the fact that they won the just concluded 2021 Anambra State governorship election and satisfied the constitutional and legal requirements in section 179 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended).

In his remarks the Supervising National Commissioner for Anambra state election, Barrister Festus Okoye appreciated the people of Anambra State for their firm belief in democracy noting that Ndi Anambra understood the sovereign right imbedded in the vote and elevated the value and quality of the vote through vigilance and mandate protection.

He said that the Electoral Umpire will further audit the conduct of the election as it is the tradition after every major election in other to reflect on things that worked well and those that failed and further improve on them with BVAS as a point of reference.

He presented the certificates of return to Governor-elect Soludo and Deputy Governor-elect Dr Onyekachukwu Ibezim which was signed by the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC, Professor Mahmood Yakubu.

Professor Soludo and Dr Ibezim on the spot signed the certificates on the column meant for them.

Speaking shortly after receiving the certificate, the Governor-elect Soludo thanked all the key stakeholders in the just concluded Anambra State governorship election, including President Muhammadu Buhari, the National Leader of APGA, Governor Obiano, the leaders of the party starting from the National Chairman, Chief Victor Oye, the former National Chairman Chief Victor Umeh, the security agencies, INEC, community leaders and Ndi Anambra in general.

He acknowledged the sacrifices made by Anambra electorates to participate in the election and promised not to disappoint the people on the expectations.

INEC had on Wednesday, announced Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo, the candidate of APGA as the winner of the 2021 Anambra gubernatorial election.

The Returning Officer of INEC, Prof. Florence Obi, who announced the results early Wednesday morning in Awka, Anambra State, said, “Soludo, having scored the highest number of votes and won more than two-thirds of the election in 21 Local Government, is hereby declared the winner.”

Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo won 19 of the 21 Local Governments election results declared by INEC.

The APGA governorship candidate polled 112,229 votes to defeat Valentine Ozigbo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who garnered 53,807 votes to emerge second, while Andy Uba of the All Progressives Congress (APC) got 43,285 votes to emerge third.

Ifeanyi Ubah of the Young Progressives Party, YPP, came fourth with 21,261 votes.
