Manchester United have accepted a bid from West Ham for Harry Maguire but rejected the Hammers’ offer for Scott McTominay.
Maguire has faced an uncertain future at Old Trafford for some time after slipping down Erik ten Hag’s pecking order last season.
Despite falling behind the likes of Raphael Varane, Lisandro Martinez and even natural left-back Luke Shaw, Maguire was said to be keen to stay and fight for his place in the side.
United were also believed to be willing to keep hold of the 30-year-old, who became the most expensive defender in history when he moved from Leicester City in 2019.
But West Ham’s perseverance has finally convinced Manchester United to sell Maguire in a deal worth £30m, according to The Athletic.
Maguire will look to revive his career in east London following a difficult period at Old Trafford – just last week he was booed by United fans in a pre-season friendly.
He is set to join a West Ham side that flirted with relegation last season but ended the campaign by winning their first major trophy since 1980.
West Ham fans have been desperate for new signings to arrive at the club following a subdued start to the summer transfer window and the departure of talismanic midfielder Declan Rice.
But the Hammers are set to unveil Mexico midfielder Edson Alvarez as their first summer signing and have now agreed a deal with Manchester United to bring Maguire to the capital city.
West Ham, who finished 14th in the Premier League last season, also want to sign Maguire’s United team-mate McTominay but their opening offer for the Scotland star has been turned down.
Ten Hag is keen to trim his squad before the start of the new season, having welcomed Mason Mount, Andre Onana and Rasmus Hojlund to Old Trafford this summer.
Maguire, who made 175 appearances for United, was recently stripped of the captaincy by Ten Hag, who appointed Bruno Fernandes as his replacement.
