Nigeria Will Break If South Don't Get 2023 Presidency- Fani-Kayode

Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, has shared his thoughts about the rumour going around that the North is likely to retain power beyond 2023, saying that if the 2023 Presidency doesn’t come to the ‘South’ Nigeria will break and cease to exist.

Femi Fani-Kayode who is one of the chieftains of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and a two-time Minister of Nigeria, taking to his social media on Tuesday, 17th November 2020, put out a series of tweets where he gave some likely scenarios that are likely to play out if South does not get the 2023 Presidency. His tweets read:

“1.If the Presidency doesn’t come to the south in 2023 our country will break & cease to exist.

2.If we don’t restructure at the soonest our country will break &cease to exist.

3.If we don’t build bridges of peace today our country will suffer a 2nd civil war &cease to exist”.

The tweet from Femi Fani-Kayode is coming a day after speculations or better still, rumours were going around that his party, PDP, are allegedly looking to give former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar the party’s Presidential ticket to run for the 2023 Presidency. This was even after he contested in 2019 against President Muhammadu Buhari who is also from the North and a Muslim like him, and lost.

While this allegation is yet to be confirmed or denied by the PDP, there have been some rumours going around about a planned massive defection from the party in the South-East, with Governors from the region who are majorly PDP leading the way to the ruling party of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

One name that has been on the lips of many, since the rumour got out, is that of Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State. He was reported to have officially informed the leadership of the Ebonyi state chapter of the party over the planned defection. The state chairman of APC, Hon. Eze Nwachukwu was reported to have confirmed this.

While others are yet to make their decisions known publicly, there is still that battle of what zone in the South should be given the nod for the 2023 Presidency. The South-East which is yet to produce the Presidency since 1999 or since Azikiwe, are demanding that both the PDP and APC zone their 2023 Presidency to the South-East zone, for equity and justice. But some powers in the South-West and South-South are reportedly to be contesting this gesture, as the likes of Tinubu, Rotimi Ameachi, Wike, Fayemi and others are all allegedly eyeing the 2023 Presidency.

But the issues raised by Femi Fani-Kayode is clearly an issue with his party, as the APC, is already a public knowledge that the 2023 Presidency, is going to the South, just that what part of the South, we cannot tell for now.
