A U.S based Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), known as United Way Worldwide, on Wednesday 26th February 2020, paid a visit to the Headquarters of National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) in Abuja, where it announced that Nigeria has been chosen as its first port of call for the understudy of human trafficking and other forms of slavery in Africa.

The Anti-Human Trafficking understudy was made known to the public at a stakeholder’s consultative forum on human trafficking and all forms of slavery in Nigeria organized by NAPTIP and United Way Worldwide by one Ms Janet Butler, who is the Vice President, Africa Region of the Organization.

According to Butler, since the inception of the Organization 30 years ago, it had been advocating for human development, community development, as well as sensitizing the public on the need to be focused and desist from such negative tendencies.

According to her, in 2015, the organization inaugurated an Anti-Human trafficking and slavery arm to explore the issue in Africa in order to find a lasting solution to it.

In response, the Director-General NAPTIP, represented by the Director Legal and Prosecution Barrister Abdulrahim Shaibu Opotu, thanked the Delegation from United Way and urged for further fruitful collaborations that will help the Agency ensure a human trafficking free nation while prosecuting traffickers.

Other stakeholders present at the forum included NACTAL, WOTCLEF, Save the Child
