The Court of Appeal, Abuja, has confirmed the conviction of Ex-governors Reverend Jolly Nyame and Senator Joshua Dariye who were former governors of Taraba and Plateau States respectively.

According to report by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Nyame, in addition to his conviction, is to pay back to government, the sum of N495 million as fine. While upholding the decision of the lower court, the Appellate Court however reduced Nyame’s 14 year sentence to 12 while Dariye is also to serve 10 years as against the 14 years handed to him.

It would be recalled that High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Gudu, Abuja, presided by Justice Adebukola Banjoko on Tuesday, June 12, 2018 sentenced former governor Joshua Dariye who was a serving senator to 14 years’ imprisonment on charges of criminal breach of trust and criminal appropriation of the state’s funds running to over N2bn.

The ex-governor was convicted on 15 out the 23 counts preferred against him in July 2007.

Similarly, Jolly Nyame was convicted on a total of 27 out of the 41 counts preferred against him. He was convicted and sentenced to various terms of imprisonment with the highest being 14 years for offences bordering on criminal breach of trust, criminal misappropriation and receiving gratification as a public officer.

Shortly after the sentence, the two former governors, in separate appeals approached the Appellate Court seeking to be discharged of any wrong doing.

…the next move now for these two is now the Supreme Court…
