Callum Turner has candidly opened up on his romance with fiancée Dua Lipa, as he gushed that she was ‘the most beautiful woman in the world’ and revealed how he defines ‘true love’.
Callum Turner, 35, began dating the pop star, 30, in January 2024, and the couple confirmed they were engaged in June this year.
In a new interview with The Times Style, he detailed their first meeting, while revealing the ‘rule’ the pair have that allows them to maintain their relationship amid their busy schedules and long-distance.
The couple’s romance appears straight out a film, with Callum Turner explaining they had ‘maybe two, three, four, five near misses over our time where we didn’t meet’, before finally finding each other.
He gushed: ‘There were loads of things like that and then, when we were both able to, we were both single and whatever, I just thought she was the most beautiful woman in the world.’
He recalled how they sparked up an instantaneous connection during drinks for a mutual friend’s birthday, when they were sat next to each other and realised they both were one chapter into reading the same novel, Hernan Diaz’s Trust
Callum Turner recounted: ‘In the movie version of it I look up to the sky and I’m like, I hear you. I understand. The signs are loud, don’t worry. And that was really the first [moment].’
One of the biggest pop stars in the world, Dua is currently travelling the States for the US leg of her global Radical Optimism Tour, which is set to come to a close in December.
Asked about the difficulty of maintaining a long-distance relationship and planning a wedding with the busy schedules, Callum insisted that the pair are able to make it work with their simple rule of ‘it’s never not worth it’.
He said: ‘Well FaceTime is a wonderful thing. And the other rule is that it’s never not worth it — that’s our slogan. If you can go for two days, just f***ing go. And if you’re tired, it doesn’t matter because you’re going to have a nice time and have a nice memory.’
The Masters of The Air star also explained how he views ‘true love’ and knows that he has it with Dua, admitting he sees it as an ‘amalgamation of the little and big things’.
He said: ‘I think true love is moments, consistency. It can’t be just one grand, sweeping thing. It’s all the little things and big things together, it’s an amalgamation, right? I think that’s what true love is.’
Dua confirmed their engagement news to British Vogue in the summer, saying: ‘It’s very exciting. This decision to grow old together, to see a life and just, I don’t know, be best friends forever – it’s a really special feeling.’
In a recent interview with Harper’s Bazaar U.S. in August, she detailed ‘intensely falling’ for Callum, and confessing she is prepared to be ‘vulnerable’ and open her heart to love, even though it is ‘so scary’.
She gushed: ‘I love love. It is a beautiful thing. It’s a really inspiring thing. You find yourself so intensely falling all the time in the best way possible. That vulnerability is so scary, but I feel so lucky to get to feel it.
‘I’ve spent a lot of time being guarded or protecting my heart, and so I’m letting go of that feeling and just being like, “Okay, if I’m supposed to get hurt, then this is what’s going to happen.” I have to just allow love.
When asked how it feels to be speaking so candidly about her relationship, she said: ‘I’m happier than ever, so it feels like I’m doing a disservice by not talking about it.’
‘When you’re a public person, anything that’s very personal is very vulnerable. It’s not like I don’t want to share it.’
While speaking of their wedding plans, Dua said she hopes to finish her tour and Callum to wrap up filming before they tie the knot.
And the couple are reportedly set for another relationship milestone, as they are allegedly on the look out for a £9million bolthole in the sun as they seek peace and privacy.
According to reports last month, they are looking at purchasing a mansion in the likes of Marbella or Andalucia, to serve as a place the couple can enjoy some sun and relax with family and friends, away from the hustle and bustle.
Of their plans, a source told The Sun: ‘The house has to be able to comfortably fit Dua and Callum, as well as their family and friends, they also want peace and tranquillity, that has been made very clear.
‘Dua and Callum have a healthy budget too, they’ve been sent details on properties priced between £3million and £9million and are weighing them up.
‘They’ve been shown massive mansions overlooking the sea, as well as a huge retreat in the hills of Marbella.’
While the power couple have reportedly already taken things to the next level, by going into business together to set up a movie production company.
Dua and Callum were said to have launched TwentyTwo Films Limited in September, with equal shares in the business, which has been listed as ‘motion picture and programme production activities’.
A source told The Sun: ‘Dua and Callum are both very ambitious people and have lots of plans for ventures they want to do together.
‘She has dipped her toe in film before. But if she does further projects, she wants to have more creative control.’
They added: ‘She and Callum have loads of ideas that they think would work. It’s very early days but the wheels are in motion.’
