COVID-19 Response: Kano Trains 1,637 On Contact Tracing

In an effort to effectively checkmate the threat and transmission of the COVID-19 global pandemic in Kano state, the state government so far trained 1,637 persons on contact tracing, whose major responsibility is to trace contacts of those infected by the disease.

In a statement released on Tuesday 12th May 2020, the state government said, “as being one of the major pillars in curbing the menace, the state government through the state Ministry of Health, since the beginning of the devastating effect of the pandemic, finds it extremely necessary to have sufficient trainees who would be in the field with a special know-how on contact tracing”.

This was disclosed recently by governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje when he paid visits to two of the Centres where the contacts tracing training programme is taking place. These are Muhammadu Buhari Specialist Hospital, Giginyu and Royal Tropicana Hotel, Niger Street, Kano.

He assured that his administration would do everything humanly possible to see that the pandemic was tamed to its knees, to get rid of it, emphasising that, “While we pray for Divine intervention, we must also observe all the protocols as provided by health professionals.

These are regular hand washing with soap and running water, use of sanitizer, face masks, social distancing, other personal hygiene protocols and environmental sanitation, among others.”

While encouraging the contact tracing trainees to always bear in mind that, for a successful fight against COVID-19 to be in place, all hands must be on deck for proper and effective coordination of responsibilities among all partners.

“You should not be influenced by what you will get as allowances or other things, you should always bear in mind that what you are doing is, contributing your own part on how to save humanity. Whatever you get afterward, is secondary. Your choice was also diligently made. You should therefore work hard and prove your mettle,” the governor said.

He charged them to work closely with other stakeholders, so as to achieve effective and efficient coordination among all the state and non-state actors.
